Our Character Values
Through our school values of Aspiration, Challenge, Resilience and Respect we have created a culture that allows all pupils to flourish because mutual respect is encouraged alongside a strong desire and aspiration to learn. The process begins with enabling every pupil to recognise and realise their potential and capacity to achieve. The staff, working alongside the pupils, are actively engaged in their own learning as they continually improve and develop their expertise. A climate of high expectation for all is actively promoted across King James.
Aspiration
At King James the students, staff and community are all connected by a shared aspiration: that all students have an educational experience that prepares them for success in college, university, apprenticeships in careers, and in life. To that end, we place great emphasis on providing our students with access to a wide range of information, which enables them to make informed decisions about their future learning and career pathway.
We believe every student should be encouraged to set their sights high for their futures, regardless of their background or individual circumstances. We value aspiration both within and outside the curriculum, encouraging the highest ambition and personal commitment, and supporting individual strengths and interests.
We aim to develop young people with the social confidence, belief and goal clarity to become highly desirable employees of the future. We believe that anything is possible.
Challenge
‘Challenge’ is a key character value at King James Academy, coupled with good support our students are challenged to push the boundaries’ of their achievements; challenged to contribute; challenged to excel. We believe that by providing a broad but knowledge based curriculum, and through effective feedback, we are all challenged and supported in equal measure.
We aim to make learning irresistible so that students come to school every day happy and eager to learn.
We know that children are naturally inquisitive and we aim to develop this curiosity by providing a curriculum that engages and excites but also provides challenge at the correct level.
Resilience
King James is committed individually and collectively to a relentless goal of being the best that we can be. We believe in the importance of teaching children the value of mistakes, failure and bouncing back after problems. Resilience is the attribute that will help us meet the challenges that life inevitably brings.
The emotional health, wellbeing and resilience of all members of the school community (including staff, students and parents) is fundamental to our vision and school culture.
We aim to work together as a school community, staff, students and parents in a supportive, respectful, aspirational and challenging environment to maximise opportunities and achievements for all.
Respect
At King James respect is central to our values, and a key behaviour that we develop within our students. We believe in creating an environment in which all students can fulfil their potential, regardless of age, disability, gender reassignment, religion or belief, race, sex and sexual orientation. All members of the school community treat each other with kindness and respect, the common link is a respect for learning and for education.
We aim to promote a culture of respect: upholding the rights of individuals and groups to hold their own values and views, whilst ensuring these rights are not presented in a way that intimidates, degrades or impacts negatively on the rights of others. As children grow older, they learn that their behaviours have an effect on their own rights and those of others. The school celebrates diversity and values the differences between individuals within the whole school community.
