Pupil Premium
Our intent at King James Academy is to ‘inspire excellence, build character’ in all pupils no matter their background. We will champion the needs of our disadvantaged pupils, so that we enrich their lives through a varied and vibrant school experience. We expect our pupils and their parents / carers to have equally high expectations and aspire to achieve the very best during their time at the Academy. This requires excellent attendance, punctuality and working in partnership with the Academy.
The pupil premium must be spent to reduce educational disadvantage, which the Academy will monitor and direct funding as needed. Examples of how the pupil premium may be spent:
Additional academic interventions and tuition through small groups and 1:1 sessions;
Staff training to develop pedagogy and practice;
Additional staffing to support pupils' social and emotional needs;
Additional staffing to support improved attendance;
Participation in extracurricular activities.
If you have any questions about support through the pupil premium please contact: Mr A. Dewar (a.dewar@kjar.org.uk).
Did you know that registering for Pupil Premium means that your child’s school could get extra money?
Pupil Premium is additional funding that the Government gives to mainstream and special schools in England to help children from low income families. The Pupil Premium Grant must be spent to help eligible pupils reach their full potential, both academically and socially, and the school will decide how best to spend this.
Who is eligible for Pupil Premium?
Pupil premium is allocated to pupils from low income families and the eligibility check is identical to the Free School Meals eligibility check. Qualifying benefits are as follows:
Income Support
income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
income-related Employment and Support Allowance
support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
the guaranteed element of Pension Credit
Child Tax Credit (provided you’re not also entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual gross income of no more than £16,190)
Working Tax Credit run-on - paid for 4 weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit
Universal Credit - if you apply on or after 1 April 2018 your household income must be less than £7,400 a year (after tax and not including any benefits you get)
Children who get paid these benefits directly, instead of through a parent or guardian, can also get free school meals.
Your child may also get free school meals if you get any of these benefits and your child is both:
