We have had a very heavily STEM focused week this week which has even resulted in a slight infatuation with renowned Scientist and Professor Lord Winston, who your children may remember from being on the telly with “Child of our time”. A group of our Year 11 students attended a Science conference where Lord Winston was a keynote speaker. He was truly inspiring and I know our students got a lot out of it.
We also had the pleasure of hosting the Royston Rotary Club annual technology tournament where students from across the school competed against teams from other schools to overcome a Science and Design & Technology challenge. The competition was fierce and our students did admirably. Thank you to all who took part and organised it.
The school also received some recognition this week from the Department of Education for the innovative way we are piloting Level 5 apprenticeships. We have a variety of apprentice programmes that we use as a school and the calibre of people involved is excellent.
I’ve always said a school has to be not just about the curriculum in the classroom but the opportunities students and staff get outside of it. It is always inspiring to see the number of musical instruments, additional sporting equipment, and creative projects that students bring in each week. It’s also a pleasure to see our staff throw so much into both their development and that of the children.
Could I please remind parents/carers, and students, on the Junior site that following the Students Council decision to focus on environmental issues the Recycling Club will be launching next week. I know this is a passionate issue for many of our students.
Have a good weekend.
