KJAR NewsPOSTED ON - 24th Jan 2020
This Monday, Year 11 students enjoyed a professional theatre company's version of 'A Christmas Carol' in the comfort of our hall. The production was well designed and performed, and also really helpful in identifying key quotes and ideas for their Literature exam. There may be an opportunity to see 'Macbeth' in the same way later in the year.
Highlights for me this week were the new activities we have introduced, Cheerleading and Boxercise, both looked like a lot of fun and lots of students were taking part. I was also delighted so many Year 8 to 10 parents came to find out about the proposed trip to Malawi in Summer 2021, where hopefully KJAR students will be helping to build an orphanage in one of the most deprived areas of Africa in terms of GDP. I am sure I’ll be writing to you frequently over the next 18 months about fundraising initiatives these students have come up with to fund the trip.
Can I take the opportunity to thank parents for ensuring student’s uniform has remained at a good standard? With both uniforms and bells there has been a little more ‘Oomph’ in some of the students which is directly transferring to the learning in the classroom. A number of parents have asked about learning strategies that go on in the academy; I’m currently discussing the best way to share that with the parent body.
I’ll finish this week where we started this Blog with curriculum extension, as English was not the only subject who had enrichment activities going on. Many students benefited from having professionals in talking about Wateraid and doing work on water sustainability. This is a great way to enhance their learning. We also had a team of students in the RSC Top of the Bench competition this week, demonstrating their Chemistry knowledge on a regional scale. I will inform you of how they did when I know myself.
It is so often the opportunities like these that give students some of their favourite memories from their school days. I’m sure this has happened for many individuals this week.
Have a good weekend.
