It was great to get our first full week under our belts this week and I must say I'm really pleased with the atmosphere around the academy. A real highlight for me was the palpable excitement generated among students this afternoon when they were given postcards letting them know which house they were in. As I stood on crossing duty it was great to see Year 5 students asking senior students which house they were in and seeing the occasional fist pump or high five when they realised they were in the same house. What was most pleasing for me was how responsive the senior students were when they were asked. It’s role modelling like this that will make this house system a real success.
A large portion of my week has been spent with the 15 students in Year 11 who did not get a postcard today. They’ve been involved in interviews to be our Senior Student Team and some of them will be Assistant Heads of House who will support the member of staff who is Head of House. I have a really tough decision to make soon to decide which students I’m putting in which role and I would like to publicly thank all of them for taking the time and effort to apply.
On a practical matter could I please remind parents not to park on Garden Walk to drop off their children. Could I also ask those of you using the Junior site car park to be very vigilant as you pull out onto the road.
Hope you all have a good weekend, I’m looking forward to meeting those Year 8 parents and students who have already booked an appointment on Sunday and I hope to see many of you at the Open days on the Senior site next week.
