Beyond the Classroom - Making every second count!
At the King James Academy we believe in making every second count. In an increasingly competitive world, our students need to not only demonstrate that they have achieved academically but that they are also well rounded individuals with a wide range of interests beyond their studies. Moreover, the benefits to general well-being and mental health of doing something different cannot be underestimated.
Learning to play a new instrument, receiving training in stage lighting from a professional, representing your school or the County in a sporting event, playing table tennis at lunch time or taking part in our own ‘Bake-Off’ are amongst the many opportunities students have to shine outside the classroom.
Our curriculum is enhanced through residential trips to places as diverse as Norfolk Lakes, the Isle of Wight and France with an emphasis on team building and embracing new challenges. Theatre visits, geography field trips, foreign exchange visits and workshops run by outside speakers help us to bring learning to life. Our newly introduced ‘Wider Horizons’ programme allows students to experience new subjects such as Psychology, Astronomy and Film Studies from an early age.
We encourage every child to become a Sports Leader, member of the school council and to take part in the Duke of Edinburgh Award. Students raise money for charity and regularly bring joy through their musical and dramatic performances, helping them to appreciate the role they play as members of our local community.
Whatever a student’s interests or passions, the King James Academy will endeavour to give them the space and confidence to develop them further and enjoy life to the full.
